She became a professional tennis player and since then she has won one WTA single title, six ITF single titles, six WTA doubles titles and six ITF doubles titles. The single tournaments were won between 2000 and 2007 at Montevideo, Boca Raton, Miami, Civitanova, Rimini, Jackson and Budapest. The last one is a WTA tournament and her opponent in the final was Sorana Cirstea from Romania. Other opponents that she won against in the finals are: Geraldine Aizenberg, Jolene Watanabe, Jane Chi, Eva Fislova , Petra Mandula and Evelyn Fauth. At the US Open she participated in 2004 and 2005 and played only until the second round, before losing. The Russian pro tennis player, Elena Vyacheslavovna Dementieva, was born in Moscow in 1981. Elena's rise to a professional athlete started at the tender age of thirteen when she entered and won her first international tournament in France. Four years later she became a professional tennis player in 1998, and took a spot in the top 100 players in 1999. It was during 1999 when she represented her home country of Russia against Venus Williams in the Fed Cup. However, Elena would face Venus again at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Australia. She ultimately lost the gold medal to Venus, but brought home the silver medal. Also in that year, Elena was named the Women's Tennis Association's Most Improved Player after ranking in their top twenty. The next year she once again made the top twenty ranking, beating Anna Kournikova out of her four-year position as the top ranked Russian tennis player. Shortly after achieving this ranking Elena injured her shoulder while in Australia, forcing her to change her serve in order to be able to continue playing. Eventually her shoulder healed, and in 2003 she was able to play in the more tournaments than any of the other top ten ranked players, totaling twenty-seven for the year. That year she also won her first title with the Women's Tennis Association when playing at Amelia Island. That year while playing doubles in the Wimbledon Tournament she and her partner, Lina Krasnoroutskaya, beat Venus and Serena Williams and making it to the semifinals of the tournament. In 2004 Elena managed to rank at her highest in the singles category and was placed as the sixth best player in the world. Two other Russians also ranked in the top ten that year, making it the first time that three Russians have ever simultaneously appeared in the top ten rankings. Elena has continued to play in tournaments with the Women's Tennis Association and has achieved high rankings along the way. Her skills and her serve almost always guarantee that she will make it into the quarterfinals or semifinals of whatever tournament she plays in.

Ranked No. 31 to end the 2010 season, Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova has three Top 30 finishes under her belt, and has been ranked as high as No. 12 in the world.
At 5-feet, 3-inches tall, the right-handed Cibulkova is one of the shorter players on tour. After turning pro in 2004, she first cracked the Top 100 in 2007. She begun that season ranked 153rd, but moved into the Top 100 for the first time when she reached the third round of the French Open.
She went on to reach the semifinals at China to crack the Top 50, eventually finishing No. 52.
She moved just outside the ranks of the elite in 2008, finishing in the Top 20 for the first time in her career. She reached the quarterfinals at Doha, upsetting No. 7 Venus Williams in the third round, then lost in the final at Amelia Island to move up to No. 29 in the world. She defended her points at the French Open with another third-round appearance, reached the quarterfinals at Stanford and blitzed her way to the final at Montreal by defeating No. 6 Elena Dementieva, No. 2 Jelena Jankovic and No. 15 Marion Bartoli. The surge in points pushed her up to No. 19 in the world, the slot she would finish the season in., with a 40-27 record.
The good times kept rolling for Cibulkova through the first half of 2009. She reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, and the semifinals of the French Open, falling to No. 1 Dinara Safina. She eventually rose to a career-best No. 12 in the rankings in early July, then went on a four-match losing streak that became a 2-8 end to the season, dropping her back to 30th.
She finished 2010 ranked 31st, compiling a 34-25 record highlighted by a third-round appearance at Wimbledon and a trip to the quarterfinals of the US Open, including an upset of No. 13 Svetlana Kuznetsova.
